He is also the lead consultant on all custom fabrication and development as well as performance tuning and modifications. Kim has over 29 years of experience in the automotive repair industry, starting his formal education at just 18 years of age and completing his automotive engineering degree by the age of 25.

Kim’s extensive mechanical background has gifted him with many talents, from diagnosing the most complex automotive problems quickly and accurately to building custom racecars and even a junior drag racer for his daughter (who is now grown and off to college.) Kim’s reputation and expertise along with his passion for high performance cars and motorcycles, makes Kiwi Car Care the choice for some of the island’s more exotic cars and superbikes. Its no wonder when visiting the shop you may see Kim working on a Ducati or an Aprilia and maybe an exotic or two, such as a Lamborghini or Ferrari.

Maui No Ka Oi – Kim decided he had found his home away from home while on vacation in Maui. Maui offered much of what he had come to love, balmy tropical weather, world class wind-surfing, easy island lifestyle and friendly people. After moving to Maui in 1994 Kim started a mobile auto mechanic business, putting his formal automotive skills and expertise to work. Kim’s attention to detail, expert customer service skills and trustworthy diagnosis quickly earned him a strong client base and a solid reputation throughout the island. In 2003, Kim made the big decision to turn his thriving business into a brick and mortar to better serve his growing workload and established Kiwi Car Care Automotive Repair Shop. He prides himself in providing quality service at his shop and has developed an island-wide reputation of being the premier automotive and motorcycle specialists.

Kim’s foray into motorsport competition is extensive and even on the small Island of Maui he was able to find racing opportunities with the Maui Go-Karters Association www.mauigokart.com and auto-xing with the Sports Car Club of America – Maui Chapter www.mauiscca.com With the heart of a competitor who loves the rush of adrenaline, Kim now enjoys racing motorcycles on the mainland with the WERA (Western Eastern Roadracing Association) www.wera.com where he has placed 2nd and 3rd in his class. He has also recently returned to karting and has placed 2nd in the Tag Senior Class. When racing with the Maui SCCA he received many awards such as, Newcomer of the Month, First in Class (E-Mod), and numerous “Fastest Time of the Day” awards and finally the coveted Solo II Maui SCCA Championship.

Kim enjoys spending his spare time (during those rare occasions where he is not working or racing) participating in many outdoor activities, skateboarding, swimming, surfing, riding trials motorcycles, photography and strolling along the beach playing ball with his Papillion Foxy and enjoying time with his wife of 10 years.

Community Partner – You can see the Kiwi Car Care banner at a number of community events where Kim supports many local clubs and agencies. Even offering his expertise as a driving instructor at Maui’s first BMWCCA Foundation’s Street Survival driving school held in May of 2007 where teenagers were offered an opportunity to learn driving skills in their own vehicles on a closed race course. Other events sponsored by Kiwi Car Care were the BMW Car Club of America Hawaii Chapter’s Spring Fling in May 2006, Maui SCCA Solo II Autocross Events, Maui Food Drive, and Aloha House 30th Anniversary Gala in 2007. In the Fall of 2008, Kiwi Car Care will be offering a scholarship to any qualified student attending MCC majoring in Automotive Repair.

Kiwi Logo – The Kiwi bird native to New Zealand is represented in both name and image at Kiwi Car Care. Born and raised in Lake Taupo, New Zealand, Kim wanted to keep a little piece of his homeland with him. He chose the Kiwi bird as his business logo and put a black rugby shirt on him to reflect his favorite New Zealand Rugby team called the All-Blacks. Now this kiwi lives in Maui and has become the long standing logo for Kiwi Car Care, Ltd.

Preventative Fluid Maintenance Services

We offer these fluid maintenance services in combination packages, alone, or added to scheduled maintenance services. We offer the following services to help you and your vehicle stay ahead of the game. See below for suggested maintenance schedule for the health and happiness of your car!

Automatic Transmission Flush Service
With our Snap-On™ Transmission flushing machine we can flush virtually 100% of your vehicles transmission fluid not 30% like a traditional transmission service! The fluid inside your transmission is designed not only to regulate the operating temperature of your transmission but also the fluid is actually what makes the transmission shift gears. Over time the transmission fluid breaks down and begins to aerate and is no longer able to perform it’s multiple functions optimally.
Recommended maintenance schedule: Every 10,000 miles or once a year.

Coolant Flush Service
Coolant is a heat transfer fluid which flows through your engine to prevent it from overheating, transferring the heat produced by the engine to the radiator in order to dissipate it. Coolant is the second most important fluid for the long term health of your engine after the engine oil. The lack of changing your coolant can lead to overheating the engine, the breakdown of the cooling system components and can result in catastrophic damage such as blown head gaskets. The Snap-On™ coolant flush machine pressurizes the cooling system to help dislodge and remove the buildup of contaminates in your cooling system.
Recommended maintenance schedule: Every 20,000 miles or every other year.

Fuel & Intake System Flush
The fuel system flush machine circulates Snap-On™ Fuel System Cleaning Solution throughout the entire fuel system. The opening and closing of a solenoid in the flush machine causes a pulsing and agitating action that helps to dislodge and purge dirt particle, silt and other contaminates in the fuel rail, fuel injectors, the combustion chambers as well as from the intake valves. Also as part of a Fuel System Service we manually clean the intake throttle body(s) to help prevent sticking of the throttle plate. Flushing your fuel system as recommended can give you 10% better fuel mileage.
Recommended maintenance schedule: Every 10,000 miles or once a year.

Power Steering Flush
Power steering fluid is probably the most neglected of any automotive fluid. Your power steering system pressures can reach upwards of 2500psi and the heat generated brakes down fluid, causing it to lose its lubricating ability. Power steering fluid flushing also removes any particles (metal, plastic, etc) which are known to cause failures within the power steering system. The Snap-On™ power steering flush machine removes a majority of the dirty power steering fluid and replaces it with clean fresh fluid thus extending the life of your power steering system.
Recommended maintenance schedule: Every time you have a transmission flush performed.

Brake Fluid Flush
Brake fluid is used to transfer force under pressure from the master cylinder reservoir through hydraulic lines to the braking calipers or wheel cylinders near the wheels. Braking applications produce a lot of heat so brake fluid must have a high boiling point to remain effective and must also not freeze under normal temperatures. As part of its chemical makeup, brake fluid is hygroscopic which means it attracts water. Since water is not compressible its causes brake fluid to function less efficiently. In order to keep your brake system performing at its best, we recommend that you replace the fluid often. The Snap-On™ brake fluid flush machine, forces clean brake fluid through the master cylinder and out of each of the bleeder screws located at the brake calipers/wheel cylinders, thus forcing all of the dirty and contaminated fluid out of the brake system.
Recommended maintenance schedule: Every 10,000 miles or once a year.
